Date Nut Bread

8 oz pkg pitted dates
1 egg beaten
1 1/4 c boiling water
1 stick butter, room temp.
1 1/2 c brown sugar, firmly packed
1 c chopped pecans
2 1/4 c sifted flour
1 1/2 tsp baking soda
1 1/2 tsp salt

Grease and floure a 9x5 loaf pan.

Cut dates into small pieces. Pour boiling water over dates. Add
butter and brown sugar. Cool this mixture. Beat in eggs and nuts.
Sift together dry ingredients and stir into date mixture. Do not
beat. Pour into prepared pan and bake in 350 degree oven for 60
minutes or until tester comes out clean. Cool in pan 10 minutes
then turn out of pan. Wrap in aluminum foil for better storage.
