Gumdrop Bread
1 cup shortening
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 1/2 cups applesauce
3 cups sifted flour
1/2 cup sugar
4 well beaten eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp soda
1 tsp salt
1 pound small gumdrop cut in half (no black)
1 cup chopped nuts (optional)
1 box white raisins
Cream shortening and sugars. Stir in eggs. Sift flour with spices,
soda and salt. Add flour alternately with applesauce. Stir in
vanilla. Fold in gumdrops, nuts and raisins. Bake in a preheated
oven at 275F for 1 1/2 hours.
