Biscuits

2 cups all-purpose flour
3 teaspoons sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
3 tablespoons vegetable shortening
1 cup buttermilk, (1 to 1 1/8)
2 tablespoons butter, melted

Preheat oven to 475 degrees and grease an 8" round cake pan.

In a medium mixing bowl mix together flour, sugar, baking powder,
baking soda and salt. Cut in shortening until the size of peas.
Stir in the milk until dough is wet. Let stand 2 - 3 minutes. Dough
should be very wet at this point.

Pour remaining flour out onto work surface and flour hands. Using
an ice cream scoop, scoop out 2 tablespoons of the dough into the
flour, gently shape into a round and place in prepared pan. Continue
till all dough is used.

Brush tops with melted butter and bake 16 - 18 minutes.
