Sourdough Chocolate Cake

1/2 cup thick starter
1 cup water
1 1/2 cup flour
1/4 cup dry skim milk powder

Mix, let ferment 2-3 hours until there is clean sour milk odor.

1 cup sugar
1/2 cup oil (or shortening)
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 1/2 teaspoon soda
2 eggs
3 squares melted chocolate

Cream fat and sugar, add salt, soda, vanilla and cinnamon. Add
eggs one at a time and beat well. Combine creamed misture with
melted chocolate and add this to sourdough mixture. Stir 300
strokes. Pour into large baking pan oiled or greased with shortening.
Bake at 350 degrees F. until toothpick comes out clean. Cool.

Ice with butterscotch frosting.


Butterscotch Frosting

1/4 cup margerine
3 oz. unsweetened chocolate
2/3 cup brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
2-3 cups confectioners sugar

In a saucepan combine margarine, chocolate, salt and sugars.

Boil, stirring constantly. Remove when all chocolate is melted
and add enough confectioners sugar for consistency you want (2-3
cups).
