RAISIN BREAD
1 c. milk
3 Tbsp. shortening
4 Tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 pkg. dry yeast
4 1/2 c. flour
1 c. raisins

Dissolve yeast in 1/4 cup hot water plus 1/2 teaspoon sugar. Heat
milk. Add shortening, sugar and salt. Add yeast mixture. Add 2 cups
of flour and beat until smooth. Cover and set in warm place to rise
for 1 hour. Add raisins and enough flour to make a firm dough.
Knead until smooth and elastic to touch. Cover and set in warm
place to rise until double in bulk. Knead again. Form into loaves
and put in greased baking pan. Cover and let rise until double in
bulk. Bake in moderate oven at 350 degrees for 50 to 60 minutes.
