Southern Chocolate Cake

2 cups sugar
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1 cup water
1 stick butter or margarine
1/2 cup cooking oil
4 tblsp cocoa powder
1/2 cup buttermilk
2 eggs, beaten
1 tsp vanilla extract

Sift together the sugar, flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
Set aside.

In a saucepan, place the water, butter, oil and cocoa powder.
Bring to a boil and pour over the dry ingredients. Mix well.

Combine the buttermilk, eggs and vanilla, mixing well. Add to the
chocolate batter and mix well.

Pour into a greased and floured 13 x 9 inch pan. Bake in preheated
400 degree oven for 20 minutes, or until done. Start frosting 5
minutes before cake is done.


Chocolate Fudge Frosting

1 stick butter or margarine
4 tblsp cocoa powder
6 tblsp milk
1 pound confectioners' sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup chopped pecans

Place butter, cocoa powder and milk in a saucepan. Bring to a
boil, being careful not to burn. Add confectioners' sugar and
vanilla. Mix well. Add chopped pecans and mix.

When cake comes from the oven, poke holes all over with a utility
fork. Spread frosting on hot cake and serve from the pan.
