Peanut Butter Buttermilk Chocolate Cake

2 cups flour
2 cups sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup margarine
1 cup water
1/2 cup vegetable shortening
3 heaping tablespons cocoa
2 eggs, beaten
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 tsp vanilla
2 tablespons peanut butter

Comvine in large mixing bowl the flour, sugar, and salt.

Combine in saucepanthe margarine, water, shortening, and cocoa.
Bring to boil and pour over flour mixture. Mix well.

Combine in another bowl the eggs, baking soda, buttermilk, and
vanilla. mix well. Add this mixture to hot mixture. Mix well.

Bake in greased and floured 9 x 13-inch pan at 350F for 20 to 25
minutes or until cake tests done. While cake is hot spread very
thin layer of Peanut Butter on it.


Icing

1/2 cup margarine
3 heaping tablespons cocoa
16 oz powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
6 tablespons milk

Melt margarine and cocoa in saucepan, but do not boil, mix well.
Take off heat and add powdered sugar, vanilla, nuts, and milk (add
just enough milk to make the icing thin enough to spread). Mix
well. Ice cake while hot.
