Sheer Perfidy

8 (1.5 oz.) chocolate bars
1 large can chocolate syrup
2 cups sugar
2 sticks butter, softened
5 medium eggs (or 4 large)
2 1/2 cups flour

1/4 tsp. soda
1 cup buttermilk
1 cup chopped nuts
2 tsp. vanilla
3 T. strong coffee

Melt candy in double boiler. In separate bowl, cream butter and
sugar. Add eggs one at a time and mix well. Sift flour and soda
together. Add, alternating with buttermilk, syrup and candy. Beat
well. Add nuts, vanilla and coffee. Bake in greased tube pan 1
1/2 hours at 350.
