Buttercream Icing

1 stick margarine or butter
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. granulated sugar
2 tsp. vanilla plus enough milk to make 2/3 cup

Cream butter and shortening. Add sugar and mix well. Heat milk and
vanilla just enough to take the chill off (not too warm). Mix milk
and vanilla mixture into the butter mixture a little at a time,
then beat until fluffy. Makes enough to frost an 8 inch 2 layer
cake.

I find this version is not as sweet as the version with confectioner's
sugar.
