Caramel Icing

2 2/3 c sugar
6 T butter
1 t vanilla
1/2 pint whipping cream

Bring to boil 2 c sugar and whipping cream. Brown in heavy skillet
2/3 c sugar slowly. Pour into whipping cream and sugar mixture,
stirring constantly. Cook to soft ball stage. Add butter and
vanilla. Beat well and spread on cake.


Cake

2 1/2 c sugar
1 c butter
1/2 c crisco
3 1/2 c cake flour
3 t baking powder
1 c sweet milk
5 eggs
1 t vanilla

Sift flour and baking powder. Cream butter, crisco, sugar well.
Add eggs one at a time. Add flour alternately w/ milk and flavoring.
Bake 25-30 minutes at 350 degrees in 4 layers. Cool.
