Poppy Seed Cake

Soak 3/4 cup poppy seed in 1/2 cup milk overnight or soak a couple
hours in hot milk. Cream 1 cup sugar and 1/2 cup butter. Add
alternately 1/2 cup milk, 2 1/4 cup cake flour, 2 tsp baking powder,
1 tsp vanilla, then poppy seeds and milk.

Beat whites of 4 eggs light and stiff and add to above mix. Bake
in 2 layers in slow oven ( 350 F.)>

Make custard filling for between layers. 3/4 cup sugar, 1 TBSP
flour, pinch salt, 1 cup scalded milk - stir slowly in top double
boiler. Add yolks of 4 eggs beaten well. Cook 3 minutes, then
cool. When cake is cool put this between layers and then serve
with chocolate frosting or whipped cream.
