DATE ROLLS

3 cups sugar
1 cup evaporated milk
1 cup chopped dates
1 cup chopped nutmeats

Boil together sugar and milk to soft stage (234 degrees). Stir in
dates and nuts.

When cool enough to handle, form these ingredients into a roll with
buttered hands. Wrap the roll in tin foil. Chill and slice later.

My mother and dad made this candy every year when I was growing up. It is a favorite. My mothers was always too soft, and my dads was always too hard and grainy. Since the ingrediants are pricey, use a candy themometer to get it just right, goldilocks.
