SEARCH RECIPES: LOCATION: Recipes >> Cookie Recipes >> Chewie Brownie    Chewie Brownie Chewy Brownie Cookie 2/3 cup shortening 1 1/2 cups firmly packed light brown sugar 1 tablespoon water 1 teaspoon vanilla 2 eggs 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour 1/3 cup unsweetened baking cocoa 1/4 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 teaspoon salt Heat oven to 375 F. Combine Crisco, light brown sugar, water and vanilla in a large mixing bowl. Beat at medium speed of electric mixer until well blended. Beat eggs into creamed mixture. Combine flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt. Mix into creamed mixture at low speed until just blended. Drop rounded measuring tablespoonfuls 2 inches apart onto ungreased baking sheet. Bake one baking sheet at a time at 375 F for 7 minutes, or until cookies are set. Cookies will appear soft and moist - DO NOT OVERBAKE! Cool on baking sheet 2 minutes. I made them for a dinner party (4 batches) they were gone within an hour. Every body was asking me for the resipe and some thought i bought them from a bakery.!!! Mine turned out flatter than I thought they would. I think they would be even better if they were topped with a little frosting (vanilla, chocolate, cherry...) and maybe topped with sprinkles or chocolate chips. I added a few chocolate chips to the top of each cookie when I baked the last couple pans full. That was a good addition. I will probably not make these again because I do not think they are better than box mix brownies, but they are more work. We all like different things, so you may disagree! I wrote a review earlier and was somewhat critical. I have to add that my daughter loves the cookies and so does our friend. He ate 6-7 of them. I still prefer brownies, but for me maybe it is a "texture thing." If you love chocolate, you may want to give these cookies a try.
