Nanaimo Bars

1/2 c butter
1/4 c sugar
5 tbsp unsweetened cocoa
1 egg

1 3/4 c graham cracker crumbs
3/4 c fine/med coconut
1/2 c finely chopped walnuts

1/2 c butter
3 tbsp milk
2 tbsp vanilla custard powder
2 c confectioners sugar

2/3 c semisweet chocolate chips (or 4 squares)
2 tbsp butter

Melt first 3 ingredients in top of double boiler or heavy saucepan.
Add beaten egg and stir to cook and thicken. Remove from heat.
Stir in crumbs, coconut and nuts. Press firmly into 9 x 9 pan.

Cream butter, milk, custard powder and sugar well, beating until
light/fluffy. spread over bottom layer.

Melt chips and butter over low heat. cool. when cool but still
runny, spread over all.

Chill. Cut it with a warmed up knife into inch square pieces.
