Nanaimo Bars

2 squares Baker's semi-sweet chocolate
1/2 C soft butter
2 T sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 egg

2 C graham wafer crumbs
1 C coconut
1/2 C chopped walnuts

2 T Bird's Custard Powder
3 T milk
1/4 C butter
2 C icing sugar

4 squares Baker's semi-sweet chocolate
1 T butter

Melt Baker's semi-sweet chocolate over hot water or a low stove.
Combine with soft butter, sugar, vanilla and egg. Mix well. Add
graham wafer crumbs, coconut and chopped walnuts. Press into a
9-inch square pan. Chill.

Combine Bird's Custard Powder with milk. Add butter. Beat in
icing sugar until smooth. Spread over chilled base. Chill 15

Melt Baker's semi-sweet chocolate with butter. Spread over custard
layer. Chill and cut into bars.

The problem with this recipe is that the custard powder is imported
from either Canada or England.

old fashion favorite my Mom used to looking for recipes that should go into a reunion cookbook..I thought of this recipe and looked on the net for the recipe..I have the Bird's custard can beside me..but hey why type it you can find it on the my surprize although my Mom always used this Bird's custard..I found that you can substitute vanilla instant pudding!! there also many variations of the recipe!!
