Toffee Treats

1/2 lb (1/4 kg) butter, softened
1 cup (1/4 liter) firmly packed light brown sugar
1 egg yolk
1 tsp (5 ml) vanilla extract
2 cups (1/2 liter) flour sifted with 1/4 tsp (1 ml) salt
6 oz (175 g) semisweet baking chocolate, melted
1/2 cup (125 ml) chopped nuts

Cream butter and sugar until fluffy; beat in egg yolk and vanilla.
Blend in flour. Pat dough evenly into a greased 10 1/2 inch by 15
1/2 inch (26 by 39 cm) jelly roll pan. Cover with melted chocolate,
sprinkle with nuts. Bake in 375F (190C) oven for 15 to 20 minutes.
Cut into 1 1/2 by 3 inch (4 by 8 cm) squares while still warm.
