Congo Bars
2 3/4 cups flour 1/2 tsp salt 2 1/2 tsp baking powder 2 stick butter, margarine or shortening MELTED 1 lb. dark brown sugar 1 tsp. vanilla 3 large eggs 1 cup chocolate chips 1 cup chopped nuts powdered sugar
Beat sugar, vanilla and eggs into the melted margarine. Combine all the dry ingredients and blend into the margarine mixture well. Stir in chips and nuts. Pour into a greased 9 x 13 pan. Bake at 350 F 30 minutes or tested done. Cool completely. To serve, cut into pieces. Sprinkle with powdered sugar if desired.
Variation: Replace part of chips and nuts with butterscotch chips, mini-marshmallows, raisins, drained chopped maraschino cherries etc.
