Czech Stew (with Gherkins)

2-1/2 to 3 lb. lean beef stew meat, cubed, 1-1/2 inch pieces
1 (4-oz.) can button mushrooms
1 large onion, white, sliced into rings
1 cup beef broth
1/2 cup red wine
1 Tbs. Hungarian paprika
1 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. pepper
1 cup sweet gherkins, drained and diced (or halved)

Put meat into bottom of slow cooker pot. Add mushrooms, then onion
slices. Combine broth, wine, paprika, salt and pepper; pour over
all. Cover tightly and cook at low for 8-10 hours or high for 4-6
hours. Thicken gravy if desired. Just before serving, add gherkins
and stir to heat pickles thoroughly.
