Glogg
2 cups sugar 1 quart vodka 1 quart dry red wine 1 cup port 1 cup brandy 1 cup sherry 2 thinly slice oranges 1 thinly sliced lemon 4 cardamon pods 1 teaspoon whole cloves 1 teaspoon whole allspice about an inch of cinnamon stick
Put sugar in a heat proof sieve (we used a collander w/ coffee filters once) over a large container.
In a big non-reactive pot, combine vodka, wine, port, brandy, sherry, oranges, lemon, cardamom and spices. Heat until smoking. Ignite and ladle or carefully pour over the sugar for 30 seconds. cover to extinguish flames. Pour the rest through the sieve, then disolve in the rest of the sugar. Serve with raisins and chopped almonds. You can add new citrus slices for display purposes, of course. Remove guests' car keys before serving.
Notes: It tastes much less potent than it is, and is so good that you tend to keep drinking it long after the right time to stop. The second one is as yet untested by me, as a result of the first one's nature.
