Apple Dumplings Deluxe
1 egg, beaten
8 ounces sour cream
2 cups flour
2 tablespoons sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
4 cups thinly sliced, peeled cooking apples
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 1/2 cups water
1 1/4 cups packed brown sugar
1 cup sugar
2 tablespoons cornstarch
2 tablespoons lemon juice
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
Combine, in a medium bowl, egg and sour cream. In a small bowl stir
together flour, 2 tablespoons sugar, baking powder, baking soda
and salt; add to sour cream mix. Mix well.
On a lightly floured surface, roll dough to a 12" square. Spread
apples atop. In a small bowl combine 1/4 cup sugar, cinnamon,
nutmeg; sprinkle atop apples. Carefully roll up dough. Cut into
twelve 1" slices.
Place slices, cut side down, in a greased 13x9" baking pan. Stir
together water, brown sugar, 1 cup sugar, cornstarch and lemon
juice; pour over slices in pan. Dot with butter.
Bake, uncovered, at 350 degrees for 35-40 min. or until golden.
