Clootie Dumplings 1 lb self raising flour 6 oz fresh breadcrumbs 4 oz soft brown sugar 2 apples 1 old carrot 1 tablespoon treacle 1 egg 8 oz currants 8 oz sultanas 5 oz butter 1 teaspoon mixed spice pinch cinnamon 1/4 pint milk Mix flour with breadcrumbs, sugar and spice. mix in currants and sultanas. Melt butter with treacle. Beat egg and milk together. Grate apple and carrot and add to dry ingredients, then mix in milk, butter and treacle. Add more milk if necessary to give a soft consistency that drops easily from a spoon. Scald cloth and dust liberally with flour. Put mixture into centre and tie securely. Boil for 3 hours.
