Egg in Bread Cut-Outs
The slang around here for this item is "frog in a hole" or "hen in a basket" Here's how it's done:
Cut out the center of a piece of bread with the rim of a glass just like you'd cut out cookie dough with a cookie cutter. Toss the bread slice into a frying pan with about 1 tbl of butter that is already melted down and starting to bubble.Flip the bread over to make sure the butter is absorbed on both sides. The heat should be about medium high. Crack the egg into the center of the slice, fry like you'd normally do a medium egg. Personally, I prefer to cook it to the point where the bread is well toasted (on both sides) but the egg is still somewhat runny. Season with pepper. Any bread will work. Kids seem to like white bread most, but I think about the best example is had by using Orowheat Health Nut bread. It's definetely a crowd pleaser with kids.
