BAKED WINTER-PEAR HALVES

6 large winter pears
1/2 cup sugar
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
1/2 cup hot water

Peel pears, cut into halves, and core. Place, cut side up, in a
baking pan (8 x 14 x 2 inches). Combine sugar, flour, and nutmeg.
Sprinkle over pears. Place 1 teaspoon butter in each pear cavity.
Pour hot water into bottom of pan. Cover with foil. Bake in
preheated moderate oven (375 F.) for 20 minutes. Remove cover and
continue baking until pears are lightly browned and tender, about
15 minutes. Makes 6 servings.
