Rolt Kraut (Red Cabbage)
1 head red cabbage (approx. 3 pounds)
2 large cooking apples, peeled and chopped
1 large onion, chopped
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup vinegar
6 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
2 tablespoons bacon drippings
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup boiling water
Coarsely shred cabbage. In large saucepan, combine all ingredients.
Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer, covered, for 1 hour.
