1/2 lb. dates
1/3 cup water
1/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1/2 cup butter
1 1/2 cup brown sugar
2 cups flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
Cook dates, water, sugar and lemon juice until thickened. Cool.
Mix butter, sugar, egg, flour, salt and baking powder. Chill dough,
then roll 1/4" thick and spread with date filling and roll, jelly
roll fashion, chill overnight (wrap in waxed paper works best).
Slice in thin slices and bake in 350 oven for 8 minutes. Grease
cookie sheet well.
