TASTY BBQ STEAKS

2 Tbs olive oil
1 large onion, fine diced
4 cloves garlic, crushed
2 tsp chilli paste
1/2 tsp ground mixed spice
1/2 tsp white pepper
1/2 tsp thyme
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 cup red wine
2 Tbs lemon juice

4 sirloin or rump steaks

Heat the oil in a medium-sized frying pan and saute the onion,
garlic, chilli paste and other seasonings until the onion is softened
and lightly coloured. Add the wine and lemon juice.

Simmer for about one minute, until slightly thickened. Let cool
completely.

With the point of a sharp knife make a few slits in the steaks.

With your hands, rub the marinade all over the meat, forcing it
into the slits.

Cover and refrigerate for several hours or overnight. Turn
occasionally. Preheat a grill or barbecue. Grill the steaks about
4 minutes each side, depending on thickness and your required
doneness.
