My Homemade Spaghetti Sauce 1 large can tomatoes, peeled 2 cloves garlic, minced 2 small cans tomato paste 1 tbsp pepper 1 tbsp sugar 2 bay leaves 1 tsp parsley 1 lb hamburger, cooked 1 lb sausage, cooked 1 cup water 1 tbsp olive oil 2 tbsp sweet basil Saute the garlic in olive oil until fragrant. Be sure to not brown the garlic! Add the tomatoes, simmer for 30 minutes. Add tomato paste and water. Stir until sauce is the consistency you like. Keep extra water nearby to add as sauce simmers. Add the rest of the herbs and seasonings. Cook at least 1 hour. The longer you cook it, the better it will taste. Add the cooked hamburger and sausage. If you don't mind excess calories, add the fat from the cooked hamburger into the sauce (about 1-2 Tbsp fat total). I like to add the meat about 30 minutes before serving to ensure the meat doesn't get soggy.
