Homemade Spaghetti Sauce 1 lb. ground beef 4 sweet Italian sausage 4 hot Italian sausage (cut in half so you know which is which) 2 large onions, chopped at least 2 large cloves of garlic, minced 2 6-oz. cans tomato paste 2 28-oz. cans crushed tomatoes garlic salt oregano basil bay leaf pepper Brown ground beef, drain, and set aside. In large pot brown sausage in extra virgin olive oil. Add onion and saute until translucent. Add minced garlic, stir it around a few times and add tomato paste. Let the tomato paste caramelize, stirring occasionally it takes the bitterness away I never have to add sugar to my sauce. Add 2 cans of water and stir until blended, then add the crushed tomatoes and ground beef. I don't measure my spices so this can be the tricky part :-). Add garlic salt, pepper, about 1 or 2 tablespoons each of basil and oregano, 1 or 2 bay leaves. Simmer for several hours, the longer the better, until desired thickness. The hot sausage will make the sauce a bit spicy, so if you don't like it that way, use all sweet sausage.
