Summer Squash and Basil Sauce for Ziti

1 lb ziti or similar pasta
1/2 cup butter
1 1/2 lbs yellow summer squash (about 4)
3 garlic cloves, chopped
1/4 cup green chile, or to taste
3 whole green scallions, finely chopped
1 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped
1/2 cup fresh Italian parsley, finely chopped
salt
freshly ground black pepper
1/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese

Start ziti cooking in water. Meanwhile, cut squash into quarters
lengthwise, then slice. Melt butter in a large, heavy skillet.
Add squash and cook for 5 minutes. Add garlic and green chile,
and cook 5 minutes longer, or until squash is cooked through. Stir
in green onions, basil, parsley, salt, and pepper, and cook another
3 minutes. Toss with hot pasta, add Parmesan cheese, and toss
again. Pass extra grated cheese and the pepper mill for each person
to add to taste. Serves 2 to 4.
