Baked Macaroni and Cheese
5 to 6 servings

8 oz. elbow macaroni
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons minced yellow onion
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1/8 teaspoon turmeric
1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/8 teaspoon salt
2 cups milk
10 oz. sharp cheddar cheese, grated (one stick of Cracker Barrel Extra Sharp)
1/2 cup crushed croutons or bread crumbs

Cook the macaroni (bring 2 quarts of water to boiling, add 1 1/2
teaspoons salt, add macaroni, return to boiling, boil about 8
minutes). Drain.

In a saucepan, melt butter. Add minced onion and saute until slightly
golden.

Add spices and flour. Cook mixture until thick, smooth and bubbly.

Add milk and cook over medium-high heat for about 8 minutes until
thickened.

Add grated cheese and stir until melted.

Pour over cooked macaroni. Mix well.

Pour macaroni and cheese sauce mixture into a 2-quart baking dish.
Top with bread crumbs.

Bake at 350 degrees F for about 25 minutes, or until browned on
top.
