Alternately add flour, salt and sour cream and vanilla. Knead dough until it doesn't stick to hands. Divide dough into 3 or 4 parts and roll thin. Cut into strips, about 3" long, cut slit close to one end and bring the longer end through slit. Deep fry at 375 deg until browned. Dust with powdered sugar when serving. USA I had this wonderful treat many years ago as a newly wed. My mother-in-law made them for Christmas. I had tried to make them myself but became discouraged when I was not able to roll them out correctly. The rolling pin and I did not yet along. I have become more adept at using the rolling pin aver the years so I thought I would try again. I searched the internet for recipies and found several. This recipe was my third try. Instead of the vanilla I added a teaspoon of rum extract. They are wonderful. Just like the ones I remember my mother-in-law making. Thank you so much for the recipe. I will now continue to make them for my children and grandchildren every Christmas as long as I am able.
