1943 Meat Puff

1 1/2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 well-beaten egg yolks
1 cup milk
1 to 1 1/2 cups coarsely chopped leftover meat
2 teaspoons minced onion
1/4 cup grated carrot
2 tablespoons melted shortening
2 stiffly beaten egg whites

Pour all of your dry ingredients into a sifter and sift together.
Mix your egg yolks and milk together and then add them to the sifted
ingredients. Stir well. Add the onion, meat, carrot, and shortening;
mix well. Fold in the egg whites. Now pour the entire mixture
into a well-greased 1-quart baking dish. Bake at 425 degrees for
45 minutes. Serve with gravy (preferably left over).
