Tourtiere

1 lb ground pork
1 lb ground veal
1 onion chopped
water
2-3 tbsp ground cloves
dash parsley (optional)
dash salt & pepper

1/2 lb shortening (1+1/8 cups approx.)
1/2 cup boiling water
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp salt
1+1/2 tsp baking powder

Brown meat and onion in large skillet. Add water to stop mixture
sticking. Add spices and cook about 3/4 - 1 hour. Adjust seasoning
to taste.

Mix shortening and water until smooth and creamy. Add flour salt
and baking powder. Roll out dough and line pie plates. Place meat
mixture into pie shells. Cover with pie crust. Bake at 450 F for
10 minutes, reduce heat to 325 F and bake for another 20-25 minutes.
Freeze until needed.

Makes 2-3 9" pies (depending on how full you make them)

We usually serve with beets and sweet potatoes.
