Chrusciki (lover's knots)
1 c flour 3 egg yolks 3 T sour cream 1 tsp vanilla 1 T vodka (or vinegar) pinch of salt
Mix well with fingers until well combined.
On a lightly floured board, knead until smooth, and dough has tiny air bubbles throughout when cut in half. Roll out thin, and cut into strips about 1 1/2" x 5". Cut a 2" slit down the center of each rectangle. Put one end through the slit, and gently pull, so the dough is shaped like a curled ribbon.
Fry quickly in crisco, lard, or cooking oil until golden brown, turning once. When cool, generously sift powdered sugar over the tops.
