Ham Loaf a la Suisse

1 tsp baking powder
1 cup sifted flour
3 eggs
2 Tbsp vegetable oil
3/4 cup milk
5 oz grated Gruyere cheese
1/2 lb cooked ham diced in small cubes
pepper to taste

1/4 cup melted butter
1/2 cup flour
2 cups milk
1/2 onion pricked with cloves
1 Tbsp salt
1 pinch of cayenne pepper
1 pinch of nutmeg
1/4 cup cream
1 tsp butter

Preheat the oven to 350. mix together baking powder end flour. Add
the eggs, the oil and the milk, mix well. Add the cheese cubes and
the ham, mix well, check the seasoning. Cover the bottom of a
rectangular mold with buttered wax paper and pour in the mixture.
Let rest 10 min., bake in oven about 45 min. Bechamel Sauce
preparation In a thick saucepan, melt butter on low heat and
incorporate the flour with a wooden spoon. Cook this mixture very
slowly 2-3 min while mixing constantly. Gradually add the milk
while mixing with a whisk, add the onion that has been pricked with
the cloves. Season and let cook very gently 15-20 min. while mixing
to obtain a smooth sauce. Add the cream and the butter, mix well.
