Cranberry Chutney

1 cup onion
1 cup water
1/2 cup sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar

2 apples, peeled and cubed
1/2 cup cider vinegar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ginger
1 teaspoon mace
some fresh ginger, grated
2 orange rinds, chopped

1 quart cranberries
1/2 cup raisins

Combine onion, water, and sugars and simmer for 30 minutes. Add
the apples, vinegar, salt, ginger, mace, grated ginger, and orange
rind and cook for 1/2 hour. Add the cranberries, the juice of two
oranges, and 1/2 cup raisins and boil hard for 10 minutes
