Sweet Pickle Chips
a gallon of hanburger slices (usually dill) sugar
Buy a gallon of hanburger slices (usually dill). Drain all the liquid off. Add one cup of sugar, put the lid on and let set in a dark cool place for 24 hours. Add another cup of sugar and put lid back on and turn up side down. (make sure no sugar is on the inside of lid or on lip of jar. this will cause it to leak when up side down) Repeat each day (turning jar each day) until liquid covers pickles. They will be very chrisp and a beautiful dark green. If you prefer them without the dill - I buy a gallon of sour pickles (usually whole) drain and slice them myself, then follow the same procedure
The way to do this was given to me by an elderly neighbor many years ago when my family was young. Now I keep them made for my grand children. When the grand kids are here, a gallon can vanish on any given week end.
