2 cups chopped apples or pears, unpeeled
1 1/2 teaspoons lemon juice
1/4 cup chopped celery
1/4 cup chopped pecans or walnuts, toasted
1/4 cup raisins, snipped whole pitted dates, or dried tart cherries
1/4 cup seedless green grapes, halves (optional)
1/3 cup whipping cream or 2/3 cup frozen whipped dessert topping, thawed
1/4 cup mayonnaise or salad dressing
In a bowl, toss apples or pears with lemon juice. Stir in celery;
nuts; raisins, dates, or dried tart cherries; and, if you wish,
For dressing, if you use whipping cream, whip it into soft peaks
in a chilled bowl. Fold mayonnaise or salad dressing into whipped
cream or thawed dessert topping and spread over the apple mixture.
Sprinkle with nutmeg. Cover and chill for 2 to 24 hours. Just
before serving, fold the dressing into the apple mixture.
Makes 4 to 6 side-dish servings.
