BBQ Sauce

2 T. butter
1 tsp. minced garlic
1/3 c fine chopped onion
1 can tomato paste (5 1/2oz.)
1/2 c dark brown sugar
1 c. apple cider vinegar
1/2 c ketsup
1/4 tsp. black pepper
1/2 tsp. salt
2 bay leaves
1/4 c cooking molasses
1/2 c water
2 T. lemon juice
1/4 dry mustard
dash hot pepper sauce
1/4 tsp. cayenne

Heat butter in heavy saucepan until foamy. Add onion and cook until
just beginning to turn light brown. Add rest, stir well to blend.
Bring to a boil and keep at boil for 3-4 minutes, stirring constantly.
Lower heat to lowest, cover, and simmer for one hour, stirring
frequently. Makes about 3 cups of sauce.
