Scalloped Oysters

1 quart oysters
2 cups coarse cracker crumbs
Salt & Pepper
1/4 pound butter
1/2 cup cream

Drain oysters and pick over for shells, rinsing in oyster liquor.
Strain and reserve in liquor. Butter a shallow oven dish; cover
the bottom with a layer of craker crumbs, then a layer of oysters.
Sprinkle over salt and pepper* and dot with butter. Repeat with
a second layer. Pour oyster liquor and cream over all, covering
with cracker crumbs and butter. Bake in a moderate oven (350|)
for about 25 minutes.
