Beef Barley Soup
2 lb beef chuck, diced 1/2 inch pieces 10 cups water 1 1/2 cups barley 3 carrots, chopped 1 cup chopped onion 3 large celery stalks, chopped (including leaves) 14 1/2 oz can tomatoes, with liquid 1/4 t pepper 2 cans beef broth 4 - 6 beef bouillon cubes.
Bring the beef chunks to a boil in the 10 cups of water. Skim foam off the top. Let simmer for 1 hour. Add the rest of the ingredients. Simmer for 1 hour. Can add more beef broth to thin soup down as necessary. This freezes well.
