Soup a l'ail Frais (Green Garlic Soup)

4 cups chicken stock
1 to 14 stalks green garlic, cut into 1/2-inch pieces
1 large baking potato, peeled and chopped
1 tsp savory herb blend
1/2 bay leaf
1/4 tsp salt
1 1/2 lbs. young fava beans in the pod, shelled and blanched for one minute
1/4 cup heavy cream
freshly ground pepper to taste
chopped fresh chives

Place the chicken stock in a 2 quart saucepan. Add the garlic,
potato, herbs and salt. Simmer over medium heat until the vegetable
are fork tender, about 15 to 20 minutes. Remove the bay leaf.
Place the mixture in a blender or food processor fitted with a
metal blade and puree. Return to saucepan and add the beans, cream
and pepper. Bring to a simmer. Ladle into warm bowls. Garnish with
chives.
