Sauerkraut Soup

2 pounds beef short ribs or brisket
2 pounds beef soup bones
2 cups chopped carrots
2 cups chopped onions
2 cups chopped celery
8 cups shredded cabbage
3 crushed garlic cloves
3 quarts of water
1 (28 oz.) can tomatoes
2 bay leaves
salt and pepper to taste

Combine first five ingredients. Cook into a broth for approx. 2
hours. Strain liquid and put into pot. Discard bones and veggies.
Add remaining ingredients to liquid. Simmer until cabbage is
tender. Can add back handpicked pieces of meat if desired.
