Scotch Broth

1 lamb bone
1 beef bone
5 cups water
4 tsp salt
1 medium onion, chopped
2 carrots, sliced
1 stalk celery, sliced
1/2 cup barley
1/2 cup yellow split peas
1 tsp parsley
1/8 tsp black pepper

Combine bones, water and salt and simmer for one hour.

Add onion, carrots, celery, barley, split peas, parsley, black
pepper and water and simmer for one more hour.
