Reviewer: Homesick for NY from Atlanta, GA I'm so excited to see that people all over the country are trying these potatoes! I'm from Syracuse, NY, where Salt Potatoes come from. They actually sell them in grocery stores. They're called Salt Potatoes and are little brown potatoes instead of red and come with the salt needed to cook them. I live in GA now and no one has heard of them. I was so excited to see the reviews from all over the place with people trying my favorite 'home' treat. :) Keep enjoying! Reviewer: Luann from St. Pete, FL I am also from Syracuse, where we believe salt potatoes are indigenous. In fact, I just brought back to FLA nine bags and am planning a large cookout with my friends. They go well with Syracuse's Hoffmann hotdogs and Gianelli sausage. My friends will love it all. Reviewer: Stephanie Turner from Euless, TX This is probably the best recipe I have found on the internet. Perfect potatoes every time. The potatoes are so good they overshadow the other dishes. Was this review helpful to you? Yes No 4 of 5 people found the following review helpful:
Reviewer: Kerry from Cortland, NY from now in Eugene, OR I too am from upstate NY & sharing this never heard of recipe with friends. We don't have salt potatoes in OR, nor do we have good butter & sugar corn on the cob fresh from the farm! Can't find a decent slice of pizza either. Reading all the reviews has made me homesick. Here's to good NY food! Was this review helpful to you? Yes No 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful:

Now my family in Virginia Beach can get a little taste of home! Was this review helpful to you? Yes No 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful:
Reviewer: Susan from Raleigh, NC USA Salt potatoes, hoffman hotdogs and gianelli sausage....next stop...Hinderwadles for a clam bake. We're in Raleigh now, but we go home to Syracuse to visit family and always come back with about 50 lbs of hoffman's and plenty of salt potatoes for friends, family and other transplants! Reviewer: Anonymous from Binghamton, NY I am also from upstate NY and have eaten these things all of my life. I didn't realize that the rest of the country was missing out. Geez, do we have to come up with everything? (Spiedies, Buffalo Wings and now Salt Potatoes) :) Was this review helpful to you? Yes No 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful:
Reviewer: Anonymous from Atlanta, GA I'm also from Syracuse, NY. and now living in Atlanta, Ga. My father grew the little potatoes in his garden and they were extra sweet and fresh. Everyone loves this easy recipe. I had no idea that this recipe is indigenous to the Syracuse. I miss Hoffman's and Twin Trees Pizza and all that lucious sweet corn that was grown in the area. Reviewer: Patty from OR I, too, am a transplant form Syracuse! Growing up, we had salt potatoes all the time. I never knew it was just a CNY thing. I've been wanting to share them with my kids... The gal that talked about no decent pizza in Eugene was right! That is where I am too! Twin Trees rocks!!!! Was this review helpful to you? Yes No 2 of 4 people found the following review helpful:
Reviewer: SSgt Evans from RAF Lakenheath, UK I too am from Syracuse and I am now in England serving in the Air Force. I was chosen to cook for a retirement ceremony and I cooked salt potatoes (which no one had ever heard of) and the famous CNY Chicken that you find at the State Fair. It was great and I'm sure I'll be asked to cook for other occasions. Thanks for a great recipe Was this review helpful to you? Yes No
Reviewer: brandon from Greenville, SC I bought those "little brown potatoes" to make dinner with tonight and I asked my friend if he knew how to make them. He said he had never heard of them. Being on Oswegonian (just outside Syracuse on Lake Ontario) moved to Greenville, SC. The girl at the checkout did not even know what they were! Thanks for the ease to find a recipe. Reviewer: Jude from Maine As a lover of salt potatoes, a friend recently was in NY at a party where the salt potatoes were in a crockpot with oodles of melted butter. I was unable to get the recipe and need it this week for a family gathering. Can anyone out there help me? I thought of cooking the and transferring them to a crockpot, but don't want them to get overdone since the seafood we are having along with them isn't going to be timed exactly. Reviewer: M Donnelly from Florida While this recipe is a good substitute the reality is the you have to use white potatoes and the secret is the salt, Hinderwaadels has a special salt. When you use the right salt a white coating ends up on the potato after boiling. The leftovers are great the next day - cold out of the bowl or cut up for home fries for breakfast. Reviewer: Liz Casey from Susanville, CA I am also from Syr, NY now in Susanville,CA and just pulled some new potatoes from garden, my neighbors never heard of salt potatoes, they will now. Was this review helpful to you? Yes No
Reviewer: Marilyn from Diamondhead, Mississippi I'm from Oneida and have eaten salt potatoes all my life...I live in Diamondhead Mississippi now and am planning a "build-your-own kabob" party this Friday and thought about making salt potatoes and grilled corn on the cob. Well, no one has ever heard of salt potatoes here. What a sad thing, eh? Well, not for long because I can sure find the potatoes and the salt and the butter and the water and I'll bet all my neighbors down here will be making them after Friday! Reviewer: Anonymous from Southern California I was delighted to see the responses from all of you from Syracuse! I grew up in Webster (Lake Ontario side of Rochester) and currently live in Southern California. We grew up on these and I continue to make them and love 'em! We used to make them over a fire when we'd have lake-side roasts. No one's heard of them out here -- but then again, no one's heard of Wegman's either (their loss)!! Was this review helpful to you? Reviewer: Sharon from Alpharetta, GA I am from Rochester, NY and I think about salt potatoes every lent. I'm used to getting My Friday fish frys with salt potatoes and just can't get it here. Thanks for the recipe. Was this review helpful to you? Yes No
Reviewer: Paul and Susan from Milwaukee area We too lived in North Syracuse for a while, just a mile from Hinderwadel's. The small brown potatoes are the typical thing. Now, here in Wisconsin we can only find "B" sized potatoes or "salad potatoes," which are small red potatoes that are just a bit larger than should be. I guess in this German area the salad potato is for German Potato Salad. Was this review helpful to you? Yes No
Reviewer: Missing Syracuse from Raleigh, North Carolina I'm also from Syracuse, NY and I have to say this is great! Like the rest from Syracuse I am used to buying the bag with the correct amount of salt included. I had no idea how much salt to add and I had no idea it was this easy! Thank you! Now if they would only sold Hoffman Hotdogs down here in North Carolina along with 10 ears of corn for $1 I'd be in heaven! I recommend REAL butter as the only choice for salt potatoes! Reviewer: KELLY from FL & AZ I TOO AM FROM THE SYRACUSE AREA, UTICA TO BE EXACT AND FOUND THE POTATOES HERE BUT THEY DIDNT COME IN THE BAG WITH THE SALT OR A RECEIPE. Was this review helpful to you? Yes No
Reviewer: Anonymous from Liverpool, NY I too am from Syracuse, NY area, where "Hinderwadel's Salt Potatoes" are a mainstay in summer cooking. However, the way to eat these is to dunk potato pieces in drawn butter as you would a clam!!! Enjoy!!! Was this review helpful to you? Yes No
