Oatmeal Burgers

1 c rolled oats
3/4 c grated sharp cheese
1/4 c sesame seeds
1 small onion, finely chopped
3 cloves garlic, pressed
1/2 tsp. sage
2 T tamari
3 eggs, beaten

2 T whole wheat pastry flour
1/2 c tomato juice
1/2 c water
1 T tamari
1 c sliced mushrooms

Mix together the burger ingredients. Set the mixture aside while
you prepare the ingredients for the sauce.

Place the flour in a small bowl. Stir a little bit of tomatoe
juice into the flour to make a paste. Gradually stir in the
remaining juice. Add the tamari and mushrooms.

Heate oil in a heavy skillet, and drop the oat mixture into the
skillet to make 4-6 large patties. (The patties will hold together
as they cook.) Cook the patties over meduim heat until brown on
the bottom, then turn them over to brown the other side.

Remove the skillet from the heat. Remove the patties and pour the
sauce into the skillet. Stir, then place the patties in the sauce.
Cover and simmer for about 10 minutes, or the time it takes to make
a quick salad.
