Patiya (Potato and Green Bananas)

1lb (450g) potatoes, cubed
1/2 lb (225g) green bananas, peeled and sliced
1 tsp salt
1 tsp black pepper
1 tsp turmeric powder
2 cups water
1 fresh coconut, grated
1 tbsp vegetable ghee
a few curry leaves
2 tsp mustard seeds

Put the potatoes and a banana in pan and sprinkle with salt, pepper
and turmeric. Cover with water and boil till tender, adding extra
water if necessary. When the potatoes are nearly done. Add the grated
coconut and cook for a further ten minutes. Heat the ghee and fry the
curry leaves and mustard seeds. When the seeds begin to jump, stir
into the patiya. Serve with a curry or rice and tomato chutney. Patiya
come from South India
